To kick this site
off right, I wanted to give you some tips on stopping
smoking for adult smoking cessation right off the first
page.
-
Every time you feel the urge to grab a
cigarette, take three deep breaths. When you smoke,
half of the intake is fresh air. Getting oxygen into
your system may help curb the urge.
-
Take a blank piece of paper. On one
side, write down all of the reasons smoking is bad for you
(you’ll find many of them on this site). On the other
side, write down why you’d like to stop. Every time
you get the urge to smoke, take a look at the paper to
boost your motivation.
-
Program yourself to feel bad about
smoking. Develop three or four images about why you
want to stop. Then, when you get a craving, mentally
go through these visual pictures. In doing so, you
create a “program” in your brain that will help you
stop.
-
Picture yourself as a smoker in 30
years. What are the consequences of
continuing? What will your body look like inside and
out? Take a look at our smoking pics pages if you need
help imagining it.
-
Change your environment. If you smoke
someplace – say the porch of your house – do what you can
to make that environment as different as
possible. Perhaps, you can even make it unwelcoming to
smoke in.
These tips on
stopping smoking for adult smoking cessation should help get
you started. Use the rest of this website to help you
